Neuschwanstein Castle
King Louis II’s most famous creation is situated on the border between Bavaria, Tyrol, and Swabia in the majestic high mountains of the fabled Schwangaus region. The impressive Neuschwanstein Castle boasts a multitude of towers, turrets and gables, creating a castle in the style of ancient German knight’s palaces, just as the king commanded. German knight fables and the opulent music of Richard Wagner served as inspiration for the interior decor. The throne room, with its 15 meter ceilings, painted in blue and gold reminiscent of a Byzantine basilica, is a sight to behold.
